Its a good book. I have read most of simon greens works and like them. however, I think that Robert Heinlien did a much better job of telling this particular story. double star anyone? but hell, for all I know, they stole it from shakespeare. and who knows who he stole it from. all that said, its a fun read. enjoy.Tags : Blood and Honor [Simon R. Blood and Honor Simon R Green 9780451452429 Books Reviews
I got caught right at the beginning of the book. Every time I put it down, I can't wait to start reading it again.
One of the most enjoyable books in the Forest Kingdom series. No Hawk or Fisher but the characters are well drawn and the action and intrigue are first rate.
This was one I couldn't put down although I would skip a paragraph or two of gore. Interesting characters, tight plot and a few surprises and plot twists. Well worth the read and I will be getting more on the series.
Seriously. I love this man's writing. His heroes are sarcastic, and self-absorbed, and flawed. They use the toilet, they spill their wine and their own blood, they screw things up. And they HATE minstrels. Yet somehow they still manage to save the day, usually in gloriously epic fashion and with some great witticism on their tongues. Indeed, Beyond the Blue Moon is still the source of my favourite literary quote to date. And those who love Hawk and Fisher will not be disappointed in the new Forest Kingdom novels.
I've never been a big fan of sci-fi, or fantasy books, with the exception of this one. I read it way back in high school, only to order as an adult. Every bit as good now, as it was back then. Love it!
Enjoyable book with a common plot line. An actor takes the place of a politically important individual during a succession battle. The twist is the succession battle is between a set of horrid individuals and wild dark magic threatens to consume the royal castle and perhaps the kingdom.
I enjoyed the book but I could predict the ending after the first 40 pages. But the writing was good enough and some of the characters were interesting and appealing that I quickly finished the book.
Green is one of my favorite authors - I love his series on the Darkside, Eddie Drood, and of course, Hawk & Fisher. This is a lesser tale, a side story of Redhart, one of The Forest Kingdom's most dangerous enemies. It doesn't have Hawk & Fisher, but concentrates on the court politics of Redhart's monarchy.
It's an entertaining tale, somewhat lightweight but Green is a skilled writer and keeps you interested all the way through.
