This is one of my favorite children's books of all time.

The pictures are funny, the premise is original, and the writing is top notch. It's especially refreshing for an American audience, because the British author uses words and linguistic structure you'd not find in the US. This also makes it great fun to read with an English accent. There's even a very clever reference to MacBeth's witches - what more could you want? I confess, when we first got it, my then-three-year-old-son didn't like it. But now, a year later he loves and requests it. Having come here to leave this review I discovered there are more Smelly Bill titles - I'm going right now to buy them all.

This is one my favorite bedtime books for my 4 year old - A great rhyme, very funny (to both of us). Bill's glee in his dirtiness is infectious and his struggle with the obsessively clean dogsitter is captivating while simple. It may be out of print in the US which is suprising -- I'd think it would achieve close to classic status among the nursery school set.
Be prepared to laugh out loud at this stinky pooch! Smelly Bill is smart, witty, and tons of fun.

The writing is fast paced and illustrative, while the pictures are unique and fun. There are just the right number of words on each page to make reading it enjoyable and interesting.

Author and illustrator, Daniel Postgate, really hit a home run on this one! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a young child.
This book is perfect for any child who has a dog or an "Aunt Bleach".
My preschool class of four year olds really enjoyed this book. Even the boys wanted to have it read to them over and over again.
I love this book and wish he'd write more of Bill's adventures! Bill and Great Aunt bleach make the best enemy's.
