This was a really good book. I stayed up till 3AM to finish it in one sitting. It was semi predictable with a few minor twists that I wasn't expecting and I usually have it all worked out. At times I thought Charles was a wimp letting women walk over him. Just some things I would have done differently in order to add additional drama: Martain should have had more interaction with Vivian and Charles instead of waiting till the very end, John could have had a lot more interaction throughout the book. Catherine should have been portrayed even more evil, Vivian's father and Charles mother should have made an appearance not just named a few times. Vivian was just a bit liberal with her body and in those days it just wasn't done. Harry, I think should have interacted with Vivian more and much sooner. It also might have been a good idea to have Vivian's mother and the letter sent to her somehow involved in Martain's search for Vivian. I can't rate this 5 stars since I reserve 5 stars for books I would keep and read over and over again. This was one of those books you read once liked it alot and moved on. It was better than average (3 stars) hence my 4 star rating. Read it you won't be sorry.Tags : Beauty Tempts the Beast - Kindle edition by Leslie Dicken. Beauty Tempts the Beast edition by Leslie Dicken Romance eBooks Reviews
Very interesting story. The developing feelings between Vivian and Ashworth was interesting. Loved the way the Lady Catherine was put in her place by the Lord of the manor. Mad because his friend , John, was a bad guy in the story and made Charles suffer for 7 years.
This book is such a page turner! I read it in one day! Leslie Dicken has an incredible imagination and I love the way she writes lots of dialogue so I almost feel like I'm reading a play and I can envision everything so easily in my head, plus her descriptions are so lush! Her writing is so sexy, with page after page of hotness - mmmmm!
Lord Ashworth has outward and inner scares from a horrible memory that is fuzzy at best. Something terrible happened that leads him to believe he is a beast who must be kept away from society, so he shuts himself in his large home and makes it as unwelcoming as possible. Vivian comes to marry him and escape an even worse fate. She must convience Ashworth that he is not the beast that he thinks he is in order to get him to marry her.
I thought this book was ok. I like the concept. I always love a good beauty and the beast theme;however, something was lacking in the love factor. They certainly lusted after one another, but there was not much to build their relationship on besides just wanting to have sex with one another. They honestly did not even spend much time together. They spent the majority of the book apart in his large house by the ocean. If they had more scenes to develop their love and not just lust, I would have really enjoyed this book. I am not mad that I read this novel, but I would not want to read it again, which I think is a sure sign of a great book.
I liked the typical beauty and the beast-type relationship the main characters had and thought that was well done. The back story on the Beast was unexpected and interesting; Beauty's wasn't as interesting and her character was a little shallow for me; how it all came together in the end was good. I felt the bad guy was too exaggerated and the details of his sexual deviance was unnecessary. All in all it ended up somewhere in the middle.
This was a very interesting story. Since It followed along the track of Beauty and the Beast, I couldn't help looking for those moments in the story. Vivian was a heroine that you really enjoyed. She was sweet and honest. Charles was tormented. It was interesting to watch her break down his walls. I was fearful of Martin discovering where Vivian was, but at the same time knowing he was going to find her. And you knew Charlotte was going to cause serious issues. Harry was a sweetheart and really, all the characters mad a very compelling story. I did enjoy it.
Out of all the novels I've purchased recently, this is probably my favorite. I love Beauty of the Beast tales and period romances, and this just hit the spot. A mysterious and volatile leading man must fight his demons, including the beautiful and openhearted leading lady staying in his decayed manor...awesome combination. It's not all fluff and Disney love, though. There are some wrenches thrown into the mix, two to be exact, and chaos ensues. The only reason that this gets four stars out of five is that even after reading the last few chapters a few times I'm still not 100% clear on the circumstances and motivations of John, a supporting character, for doing what he does. That part could have been written better, in my opinion. But all in all, a very good read.
I love Beauty and the Beast themed novels and this one did not disappoint! I loved the characters.... both Vivian And Lord Ashworth were appealing, well developed and complex. I was pulled into the story right from the start and was riveted the whole way through. This story had it all - a tortured hero, an abused heroine, mystery, intrigue and hot and steamy passion. It was the story of two people filled with secret pain who come together to heal one another. A very emotional read that I thoroughly enjoyed and devoured. I will be looking to read more from Leslie Dicken.
